Adam Shore, GM of Vice’s new label, appears to be completely full of shit.

This past year, the line between independent and major labels has been blurred, with labels like Sub Pop having amazing years off of the Postal Service and the Shins. But such success, to Shore, is indicative of a worrisome trend.

“I feel like there has been created, in the past two to three years, an indie-yuppie establishment. Bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Iron and Wine, the Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, they are great bands, really great bands, with great albums, great songs, high quality. And to me, it’s just so fucking boring,” he says. “It’s like fancy-coffee-drinking, Volvo-riding music for kids. And kids should be listening to music that shakes them up more, makes them uncomfortable. … I don’t think we?re ever going to sign an indie rock band. … I want to sign stuff that is more immediate and shakes you up a bit.”

So far, Vice has been successful in the attempt to create such a reputation. But, they will face their biggest challenge yet in maintaining that image as they work with the Bloc Party album, Silent Alarm.

The buzz surrounding Bloc Party has exploded in recent weeks, and as the band is on the verge of mainstream exposure, Vice is learning to handle a new beast.

The success of good music in the marketplace is a worrisome trend? Did this guy actually listen to the BSS and Arcade Fire records? But he thought Bloc Party was a better investment? Because they’re shaking things up? I guess Franz Ferdinand is a goddamn earthquake.
