I should be finishing a paper right now, but I can’t stop thinking about this.

This morning, I woke up with numbness in three of my fingers in my left hand. It persisted for about 3 hours. This is a very common symptom of the beginnings of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. These days I use my left hand for mousing, because I can’t handle it on the right because of my injuries. When I was in high school, I developed tendonitis on the right side from overuse, and I ended up having surgery to fix that.

I have chronic pain in my right hand, wrist, and arm, that will never completely go away. Therapy helps, but doesn’t heal. Stopping activity doesn’t seem to help at all… after a week-long break, two minutes is enough to make it hurt again.

I started crying in the shower this morning at the prospect of losing my other wrist. I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do. Wrist wrests, high-quality split keyboard, proper posture and ergonomic desk/chair setup. I’ve devoted a lot of time recently to learning to type and mouse properly. I stretch before I use a computer and before I practice. It still doesn’t help.
