Back in June, the prolific Jade made an intro post for his new blog.

It’s interesting. The first thing you have to decide about an online journal is whether or not you will tell the truth, and by that I don’t mean lying but omitting the truth, which is the same thing in terms of a diary, like if you slash the tires on some fuckhead’s RV because he parked it right on a corner and you can’t see the oncoming cars. What if the guy reads it? Well, you should have moved the the damn thing when you read the note on the window! Jerk.

How did he know, not even having a site? The biggest problem with this page is that I can’t really say anything about the thoughts running through my own head. It’s not that I’ve ever lied. More that I don’t write what I want to write. Not because I’m uncomfortable writing said thoughts down, but more because I’ll be uncomfortable when I talk to the people I write about later.

I’m sure it wouldn’t be brought up in conversation. But I would know that I wrote it, and they would have read it, and it will take them all the effort in the world not to admit that they read this site.

Some people I know just say “fuck it” and write in no uncertain terms. Do they have less friends because of it? Or are they just more secure about what their friends think of them than I am? Ding ding, we have a winner.

Saucy

I cooked tonight, and it actually pulled together at the last moment! It was good. Pasta with white sauce, including all sorts of goodies such as onions and garlic and such.

Classes are good so far. Music theory is daunting — the professor gave us an exam before he even introduced himself — but I expected as much. Physics will be just as crazy as last semester. Piano is fun… I practiced today. CS seems okay so far, we’ll see. EE is tomorrow. If EE 101 was any indication, 102 should be a piece of cake.

Laundry day.

School starts tomorrow, and I’m looking forward to it. Probably because I’m a little bored, and I need something to do. Computer science and piano tomorrow… Normally I would have a few labs tomorrow night, but not during the first week.

I descend (ascend?) deeper into the library of James Taylor every day. I got my fresh copy of October Road in the mail on Friday, and it’s good. It’s actually a limited edition copy, with a bonus disc featuring some duets with other artists and such. The main CD, strangely, features a rendition of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” which might be the best track of the album. Time will tell.

I formatted my system drive this morning. XP decided to come down with a case of corruptedprofileitis, incurable despite my attempts at restoration. So, smooth that I am, with all my data on a seperate physical drive — formatting and reinstallation was a snap, because I didn’t have to deal with backups. Nice to have a clean system anyway.

Roommate situation is working out well so far… more to report later.

Miscellanea

This site has been down a lot lately. Just as well that it happened this month, because I haven’t been posting much. Anyway, a company bought my hosting company, and support has disappeared. Site will soon be moved to a new server in Texas.

A lot has happened since my last post. I’m in my new apartment. We’ve had several problems, but things are (mostly) running smoothly now. My days have been consumed by spending money, furniture assembly, and freeway driving. All of which are American dreams.

I went on the roof of my building today and read for a while. It was nice… depending on which direction you’re facing, there’s downtown, USC, or the Hollywood sign. Four stories up is tall enough to feel taller than most of LA.

This feels a lot like last semester so far, but different in a few ways. It’s nice to have a kitchen, and I’m glad to be mostly independent (read: car). The weather is wonderful, as usual. I feel lonely and busy at the same time, which is an accurate way to summarize last semester. I’ll be busier on Monday, when classes start. I’ll probably be just as lonely.

In the interim: I spent most of yesterday working on a new project, fsutribe.org. They’re a political party at FSU. It should be up pretty soon, in time for school to start (Monday there as well).

Enough posting. More soon? I think I said that last time.

The post you’ve all been waiting for…

(For which you’ve all been waiting. I think not.)

OK, back in LA, with car. The trip was wonderful. I ate great food (Mexican, Cajun, Tex-Mex, Tex-Mex, Tex-Mex, seafood, in that order)… 2500 miles of good music, as well. Got my dad hooked on DMB!

We stopped in Tallahassee, Baton Rouge, San Antonio, El Paso, and Blythe (CA). Texas isn’t as bad as you might think, and LA (the other LA, that is — not L.A.) was fun. Blythe will be the subject of jokes for decades to come.

Just what does <g> mean, anyway?

Back in LA… more updates later.
