I’m Defective. Send Me Back.

My body hurts. A lot of times I wonder if this is how it’s supposed to feel. All sorts of things in my body don’t feel right. I keep switching my mouse hand every five minutes because my arm gets too tired to move back and forth. I keep shifting in my seat. I have just about the most ergonomic setup I’ve ever seen. I think a good setup keeps you from getting injured, but doesn’t matter too much once the damage is done.

It would be great if you could step into a machine, and the machine would scan you and compare you to the statistically average human, and tell you all the things wrong with your body. And then doctors would fix your problems, because they would know exactly what is wrong. My problem usually isn’t that a doctor can’t fix a problem. It’s usually that the doctor can’t really figure out what the problem is. “Well, Chris,” you’re mumble to yourself, “doctors are pretty smart. Are you sure you’re not just complaining about nothing?” Often I don’t know whether or not to complain about some pain I’m having because I don’t know if it’s just “normal.” I try not to complain too much, because then when I really have something to complain about (like my drill-in-the-forehead headache last night), it doesn’t sound as important. What was that story? The Boy Who Cried Wolf?

But lots of things just aren’t right. Searing pain in both wrists as I type this. Sometimes (like now), I feel broken.

I’ll make a list of bad things just for my own sake. Including the things I don’t complain about.

- tendonitis/nerve entrapment/CTS in forearms, wrists, hands and fingers.
- back pain, lower right, below hip; associated upper right neck pain. shoots down right leg, too.
- asthma.
- environmental allergies.
- sometimes ringing ears.
- popping in knees, ankles, and toes; associated lack of flexibility in toes.
- sore knees in the morning.
- weird kind of fluttering feeling in chest after running for a long time. doesn’t feel like asthma.
- unrelated, i think: upper chest pain, feels tight, doesn’t feel like asthma (recent development - allergies?).
- jaw tightness.
- bite doesn’t really feel right… better than before the surgery, but I don’t know — then again, how would I know what it’s supposed to feel like?
- braces. enough, already.
- distance vision.
- stomach aches. wow, those are fun.
- getting sick so often. always congested.

Maybe this marhcing band stuff is a bad idea. I practiced for about 10 minutes today, and it was too much. That makes me really angry.
