Trip…
So, I’m on a plane now to Orlando. On the way back from USC, of course.
The flights over were good. Mom and I are flying Frontier - cheapo, but not too bad. Food’s pretty decent, at least. We left Tuesday morning, Dad took us to MCO. No delays to DIA, or LAX. Cool.
Got to L.A. Found our airport Radisson. Rented one white Daewoo Lanos. snicker What a compact. The very definition. Not too bad, though, for what I’m sure it cost. Heck, I could probably buy 4 or 5 of them with my tuition for one year at USC. Heh.
Let’s see. They put me up in the New Residential dorm (excuse me - Community) which was actually pretty nice. My roommate was, not coincidentally I think, also named Chris, majoring in CS (although we both changed later to CECS), and hooked up @ the USC Radisson this fall. He was cool, although I wouldn’t want to be roomed with him for a year.
USC was 100% freakin’ awesome. Everything was well planned. We had some general orientation and stuff all throughout the two-day session. There was a lot of cool stuff though. I’ll try to hit it all in chronological order.
My orientation advisor was a guy named Mike Ramirez. Real cool. He was an advisor for me and about 10 others. I got to know a few of them pretty well. I’m very excited about all the racial diversity. No LBHS, that’s for sure. w00!
More… There was a pep rally at the end of Wednesday. Soooo awesome. There was a bit of the band there. Soooo awesome. You see, the next day, I talked to the DL section leader… That would be approximately when I signed up.
He’s going to email me some information, and I’m going to practice until I need surgery. Again.
That next day (Thursday) was also when I registered for classes. I’m taking: CS 102 (passed out of 101), writing 140 (mandatory), some history class (goes with previous), and Calc III. Yeah, that’s a 3. You see, they gave me a math placement test on Wed., on which I scored a 38/40. This is very good, I’m told. I didn’t talk to anybody even in the 30’s, so I guess I’m good to go. That score, combined with my BC 5, put me in Calc III. I accepted. Oh, I’m also taking the Honors Engineering colloquium, for a total of 17 units. w00.
Cool things I forgot to mention:
Coffee is good. Had a latte and a “trojan chiller” (mocha frappaccino).
I’ll get ethernet in the Radisson within 1-2 weeks of move-in.
Went to dinner with my mom at Gladstone’s last night. Broiled scallops on the sands of Malibu. Doesn’t get much better, folks.
“Naveed” is my official themesong, at the moment.
That’s all for now. More news at ten to the hour, every hour. Go Dodgers! #
